The first draft is complete! This one took awhile. Life intrudes with husbandly and fatherly duties, work, and other joyous life events. This story continues to surprise me. Originally, I thought this might be a short-short. It has morphed into a typical short story with a little under 2500 words in the initial draft. And it is remained an odd nut. You’ll see what I mean if you have the chance to read it one day.
Next steps: My incredible alpha reading wife will read, then my outstanding workshop, then I’ll do a bit of surgery and let the story sit for awhile. Probably at least a month. Then I’ll come back to it when my brain has moved on, and like Stephen King says, “and it feels like an alien wrote it.” I’ll give it another revision and perhaps another round of gamma reading, maybe more revising, then off it will go into the wild publishing yonder.
